Greetings from Israel

Well, here I am, waiting in a hotel lobby beside the Sea of Galilee (actually a Lake...just a bit of the vast amount of new info I am gaining) waiting for the Ohio St/Michigan game to start...and holding my breath that the game that I just ordered is actually going to show up....and hoping that I can actually stay awake (doesn't even start until 10:30 PM here). While I am waiting, I figured I would get on the ole Pea Ridge Forum and see what was going on...and let you guys know what was happening over here. We were supposed to leave Atlanta at 11:30 PM EST on Thursday night but were delayed about an hour as some sort of communication issue for the flight attendents had to be fixed. We then got about 1/3 the way across the Atlantic and had a man have some serious heart complications...needed a defibrulator, etc...and we had to turn around and drop him off in Newfoundland. We finally made it to Tel Aviv about 17 hours after the original boarding and then had a 2 hour ride to the hotel up here in the Northern part of the country. We had our first day of site seeing today which included the Mount of the Beattitudes, Capernaum, a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, and finally a baptism in the Jordan (I actually opted for the Naman/leprosy/dunking 7 times thing...even though I don't have leprosy...just thought it'd be cool...and it was). We also drove past some cool things....excavation site of Magdala (where Mary was from....or worked or something), where Jesus fed the 4,000, and also where Jesus cast the demons into the herd of pigs. I always wondered why there were pigs around when the Jews found them unclean....but after being here it begins to make sense. As it turns out, the east side of the Sea of Galilee is where the Gentiles lived...so they would be raising pigs. Also , when Jesus fed the 4,000, there were 7 baskets left over. Ever wondered why? Why not 12 like there were when he fed the 5,000 (which occurred on the West side of the Sea)? The 12 baskets seemingly indicated that the 12 tribes of Israel were going to be fed with what Jesus had to give. As it turns out, there were 7 Gentile people groups that lived on that side of the Sea where Jesus did that mulitiplication miracle. Now it makes sense that He was indicating that His provision was sufficient for the Gentiles as well. One other tidbit and then it'll be time for the game. Ever wondered why 153 fish were caught in John 20:11? Why not 154 or 152? Why even mention the number at all? As it turns out (obviously God knew all along) 153 is the number that the Jews assign to God. Jesus was once again confirming who He was. Thanks for reading. Hopefully I'll be able to post again later in the week. Won't be as long as anything Toom can write...but I'll do my best. AC

Kinda sad that I am responding to my own blog first...but oh well...I'm fading fast and need to stay awake. The game wouldn't come through on video...so I am just listening to it. Must be exciting to watch with all the scoring...but it doesn't make it any better over the airwaves. I am trying to stay awake until the first or second possession of the 2nd half to see if Michigan makes any adjustments...but for now it seems like Ohio St is simply the real deal. Getting hungry...nothing to eat. Sux. Shaq

Rediculous. 42-39 Ohio State. Still up. Gotta pee.....very bad. OSU just recovered the onside attempt with 2 min. left. Please, something just happen and happen fast so I can go to bed.

Chunk, Keep us updated while you're there...very interested in the trip. The game was good...Big Blue missed some opps......easily the two best teams in the nation.....wouldn't hurt my feelings to see a rematch....but what happens if Michigan wins that...split champion? Be safe over there and have fun.

Those factoids were cool. Keep them coming. I am glad you were able to get connected.

Very cool. I guess you won't be going to the Tech game?

I never thought I'd say this but I think a rematch with OSU and Michigan is the way to go. The home team won and it was a great game and there simply isn't another good candidate. USC lost to a bad team, if ND beats USC, ND was killed by Michigan. FL lost to Auburn, Arkansas lost to USC.

So you met Stafford? Cool. Y'all should have much to discuss, as you're both big, both chunky A's.

Turning the plane around..couldn't they just shoot for London or something where you're not back-tracking? Man, that stinks.

Was the Jordan dirty? I have always heard that it was. So, if you don't have leprosy and you get Naaman-ized, don't you then contract leprosy? Let us know if you start itching.

"where Jesus fed the 4,000" - wasn't it 5,000 or am I crazy?

"...east side of the Sea of Galilee is where the Gentiles lived...so they would be raising pigs." Very interesting, never thought about that.

"Now it makes sense that He was indicating that His provision was sufficient for the Gentiles as well." This is my favorite part of your post. I have never heard this either, but that is really cool, (and I guess we don't have any way of knowing if that was intended?) that Jesus was making a statement about sufficiency of grace, even in this.

"153 is the number that the Jews assign to God. Jesus was once again confirming who He was." Hmmm. Why did they assign 153 to God? Very interesting again. Keep going with this, if you can.

seems like you are having a great trip...no rematch, i don't think you can say any one loss doesn't deserve to be there. come on, Michigan was down 28-14 and had a prevent defense touchdwon late to make it close neither team played any defense. Michigan had there shot. Ohio state should play some body else that would prove to bea "national title" by beating a team from a different conference. not michigan twice.

153 is probably the numerical value of the word for God in Hebrew....at least that's my understanding. Each letter of their alphabet has a value and when you add up values of those letters, you get a value. Interesting value tidbit...the word for mother and the word for father add up to equal the value for the word child. The word for pregnancy equals 271 (number of days a woman carries a baby to full term).
Feeding of the 4,000 was the second multiplication miracle after the feeding of the 5,000...which happened on the western side of the sea...and had 12 baskets leftover (one for each tribe).

Cool stuff. AC
