Round 1 Results

The basketball itself has been pretty uncompelling. I heard one time if you picked nothing but favorites, you'd beat the average. In this case, there were only TWO upsets, other than the 8v9. Winthrop (which a lot of you saw coming) and VCU over Duke (which took a Davidson grad to see). Yes, these are the words of a last place competitor. Alas, here are the first round results and some comments.

AC is in a tie for 2nd, but controls his own destiny with ALL S16 teams left. The EE Vandy pick could be big going forward.

If it wasn't for Tara's ill-advised trip through time to 1985 (picking Villanova), BH'd really be in the catbird seat. Butler over Maryland and the Silloukies (sp?) in the EE will be big.

JHo looking good, too. Nothing eccentric here, except Creighton (gone) and Butler in the S16.

JT might've been tripped up by his confused ACC/SEC allegiances (as were others, especially with Arkansas) but he's got all his S16 teams left. Any big upsets could hurt him.

And JB, even with the Davidson/Ark fiasco, still has 14 teams left.

Infamy

Though it must've been fun, the NMSU pick didn't happen, leaving JB with an Aggies/Razorbacks pipedream.

CS would be looking good had he not put his faith in old Army buddies Bobby Knight and Coach K.

Haynes does not have the luck of the Irish, an EE pick not to be. I liked the LBS pick and the GW, put it didn't happen.

TG's ODU/Davidson matchup won't happen, nor will the long awaited Oral Roberts v the Father of our country.

Dooze went slummin' (LBS in S16) and uppity (Penn in S16), all in the same region.

And finally, I'm not making excuses, but I did find out after the fact that Kendall Gill has been gone from Illinois for 16 years. I also had 3 8 seeds lose.
