Summer Blues

I know we have over 4 months before the Cowboys come to Athens and that fact has got me a little blue.......so I figured it's never too early to talk College football......

After the G-Day game I found myself not knowing what to think.....since CMR has been in Athens our D has pretty much dominated our O.....and this has worked out OK for us for the most part. Our D is what has kept us in many a game....but this year?? Well this year they got gashed at G-Day...my first thought was..."SWEET...our O finally showed up!" And then just as quickly my stomach dropped and I thought....."Oh crap....we're gonna get killed this year if we can't stop the likes of Blake Barnes!" I have since calmed a bit and realized that these glorified scrimmages don't mean much.....unless of course you live in Alabama.....I can't believe I going to live there.

92,000 for a scrimmage???? Are you serious??? Who was watching the trailer park ???? This just shows how nuts Bama fans are...and the fact that they don't have much of a life......my prediction is that once Saban figures out how crazy these people are.....he'll pull a Tubby.

Just when I thought I couldn't hate ND any more than I do they get a Clausen brother....that my friends is a family full of assclowns......this one could be the biggest of all.....my hope, and belief, is that he will turn out to be as sorry as both his brothers.....

I haven't seen much....but I am sure that every South Carolina fan believes in their heart that they will storm the SEC and play for a national title......never in my life have I seen a bigger group of delusional people.....

Haven't heard much off the Plains.......don't really care either

Sadly we don't have Jim Bob Cooter to look forward to out of Knox-Vegas.....and the police blotter has been quiet.....too bad.

They games I'm looking most forward too??? Vandy and Kentcuky.....we need to beat theses two teams by 100 points to get over the debacle of last year.

I did hear that Caleb King has qualified....How crowded is our backfield????

I'm looking forward to Game Day on Saturday mornings.....not looking forward to watching Lou Holtz have a series of mini-strokes as he gives half time commentary......Mike Babobo???

So what are the feelings about the season......what are the concerns and fears??

#1 - Jebo and I were talking last night about the suspensions that have taken place. This year hasn't been that bad ... yet ... but I get this bad feeling that that will come back to bite us at some point. Of course, USC has had their problems this year too.

I for one was glad to see the offense have their way. Our DEs are young but fast. I'm not delusional enough to think they can replace QM and CJ, but considering the LB depth and outstanding upgrade in secondary, I don't think we'll miss much. Here's hoping the D gets on the field and goes, "man, practice is much harder than this." Watch the middle of the field and our run D. If we start to give up rushing yards, then I'll be worried - guys on CSS had a good point, that a lot hinges on #12. It is time for Brandon Miller to get coached up and play like he is capable of playing.

The play calling continues to astonish - and this Bobobo kid knows what he's doing. I expect we'll have a boneheaded call here and there but the good will outweigh the bad dramatically when considering the predictability CMR had lapsed into. I think it just makes sense. You're considering the whole picture and you tend to be conservative - much better to have tunnel vision on the creativity side with the CEO having veto authority over anything that will put the team in a bad spot. I KNOW those creative run plays were non-existent last year, counters with a real edge to them and different play action, QB decision looks, vs. the shotgun sprint draw or the TB off tackle. Its just a better offense and by better, I mean MUCH better.

Anyone see Logan Grey on the sideline? That guy just LOOKS like he should play quarterback for UGA. Thought Cox looked like the perfect complement to MS - very calm, yet competitive. I don't think we'll have the deer in the headlights moment. We all know much of this depends on receiver play and not dropping the ball and to that, I am thrilled about the move for MoMass to the slot receiver spot.

Caleb is in but I can't see them killing a year of eligibility when you have Lumpy and Kno out there. Kno has quite a motor ... he started to remind me of a Kenny Irons, 35 a game kind of back. Dang, I would love to see us commit to the run and commit to at least only TWO backs. Lumpy is looking very, very strong - not going to make you miss but going to make you pay. Kno will make you miss and he's got a little punch too.

Anyone know story on Miko Goodman injury? Expected to be 100%? Kenneth Harris? I don't remember seeing Ward out there and he's supposed to be a good one. We get those guys healthy, I see Mo in slot, Bailey, Mikey being deep threats, a stong Chandler as an outlet, and Goodman as a great complement to all that. Who am I forgetting? Kris Durham as our annoying white boy with great hands. He looks like he will break in two but he's actually a pretty decent blocker.

Without question, the biggest surprise of the spring game was the patchwork Offensive line. Again, we have to consider our own issues at DL, but that freshman Sturdivant??? and "Big Bean" Justin Anderson have me excited. These guys are YOUNG, with the exception of Cheese and Fernando. That gets me tingly!!!

These are the big questions:

1. Can Chris Nickson become a more consistent quarterback?

2. Coach Grobe says the Deacs have more talent, but can they survive opening with Nebraska and BC?

3. How will Air Force respond with the retiring of long-term coach, Fisher DeBerry?

4. Was Chan Gailey that stupid for not playing Taylor Benett or does he know something that we'll find out this year?
