Where is everyone??? It's been the Toom, Juice and CT show on the PRF.......Two things today that I felt were worth talking about.....even if it's just the three of us........
1. Has CMR lost his ever lovin' mind? We are going to play Joe Cox in every game........Seriously??? Toom and Juice both brought this to my attention and I have to say I'm puzzled.......Why on God's green earth would we "work him in" for every game???? He's not DJ.......I'm all for having a back up that can step in and play if needed........keyword being NEEDED.......Why would we take the ball out of Mathew's hands and put it in his unless we are beating a team like a drum.......somebody please help me out here.
2.Georgia is not a National Power........I posted on this last week....but it was worth mentioning again.....I'm linking to a post from Kyle King at dawgsports.com......it has to do with an article that Stewart Mandel wrote for si.com about what programs were "National Powers" and which were not........He based his list on 100 mythical people from Montana....which you will see referenced in King's post.......many interesting facts about our beloved Dawgs in this post....it's worth the read.

I am not so worried about letting Cox get some PT. I am struck however, by the low expectations that many of us fans seem to have headed into the season. The whole debate about "being a national power" needs to be broken down into the following questions. 1. Are the Dawgs going to win it all this year; National Champions? The answer seems to be, "Impossible." 2. Will we win the SEC? The answer seems to be, "Unlikely." 3. Will we win the SEC East? The consensus is, "With a little luck." 4. Bowl-bound? "Absolutely."
I do believe the Dawgs will show some marks of greatness this year, but I feel, and am getting the feel from the board and the sports-writers that this is a preparation year for great years to come.
So, national power in 2007? No. Am I still pumped to see them get respect and surprise a whole lot of folks? Absolutely. They will be in the top 25, but I doubt they will crack the top 10 this year.
And yes, it hurts to say so.
I have calmed a bit since first reading about the Joe Cox deal.....just seems like CMR was saying that they have faith in him to lead if needed and that he would like to get him in when the time is right....my hope is that that means when we are killing somebody.....Some of the info on UGA's history was pretty cool I thought in the Kyle King article.....fairly storied history I think.....I think we have the potential to make some noise this year....but we'll see how it plays out this in about 12 days.
CT - I don't get the Joe Cox thing. They say, "you have practiced well enough to earn playing time" but doesn't that involve beating the guy ahead of you at the QB position? Could be a motivator for Staff, could be mop up duty, could be saying, 'hey the kid is a sophomore, we're not pinning the world on him.' Could be, 'hey, if our 1 gets hurt, the 2 needs to be game aware. I just hope it's not close game situation and Stafford is fine and we put a rotation in.
My memory is foggy but Shockley really hurt us against FL in 02, helped some along the way like Clemson the same year, but for the most part, I thought we mishandled that. If Cox brought something very different (ie speed) I might understand a situational thing (again, like I envisioned with Shock/Greene and like UF had last year) but he is a pocket passer.
Aside: my heart really goes out to DJ.
Any word on how Greenie is doing?
I gleaned Mandel's comments and it seems to equate to the fact that UGA has scheduled regionally and Penn State scheduled nationally and being an independent until recently and playing for a championship more recently seems to be the biggest factor. The problem is, UGA is on the cusp of breaking out and Penn State is not. Once we get there, (statistics show we are but we're not in the national conciousness) that will change in a hurry.
On Jeebs comments, I think if we can escape the first two and if the OL comes together and we get some adequate DE play, we SHOULD win the SEC. Those are alot of ifs but the receivers should breakout and the RBs are awesome, just got to have the OL play.
