I lack maturity

I admit it. Nothing illustrates this as well as when my boy, Tucker, has a birthday.

Clue #1: Opening presents on Friday, Tucker got this new baseball game for the Wii. I'd been dutifully guiding him the whole evening, "Say thank you", and "Look at the person when you're thanking them"...things like that. He opens the baseball game and I briefly lose my composure, blurting out, "Thanks Marge and Jo!"

The gift was for him, not for me. I forgot, OK?

Clue #2: A mom of Tucker's pal said she had a gift for him that was "sorta for Tucker and Tommy". Turns out, it is a Nerf dart game and yeah, I'm cautiously jacked about it. To confirm this opinion, in case you're thinking she was just being folksy, Tucker's friend Patrick says, "Oh! Tucker and his Daddy will love it!"

He's been over to the house before.

Clue #3: Tucker is going shopping today to spend the $75 he got as birthday money. I am anxiously awaiting the report of items purchased. Rumor has it, there's some NCAA 2009 in my future, as well as a driving game for the Wii.

I may go home for lunch.

I am sitting here listening to "Sweet!" from the basement ... NCAA 2009 is here ... and Tuck is already all over it.
