***Matthew Stafford leads the SEC and ranks sixth nationally in pass efficiency (203.3)
***Did you see the qb at UCLA last night? He looked positively awful, throwing 4 picks in the first half, then he comes back out and wins the game. Read earlier that Neuheisel never considered pulling him, saying he himself had thrown four picks his first start. Then Blutarsky says:
One quarterback who didn’t have much success in an opener was Neuheisel. When the Bruins opened the 1983 season at Georgia, Neuheisel received a pregame omen from the team’s bulldog mascot.
“Uga threw up on my cleats during warmups,” Neuheisel said. “I threw four interceptions.”
***Check out Muschamp in the Texas opener. http://blutarsky.wordpress.com/2008/09/01/in-the-blood/
***There were 32 games matching I-A and I-AA teams, with the big boys going 31-1 (and we’re not sure we count San Diego State as I-A anymore). The average score was 40-10.
***Haynes has pointed this out but it bears repeating...
the Tigers’ first carry of the season went to true freshman Jamie Harper, a recruiting promise by coach Tommy Bowden. Alabama linebacker Cory Reamer stripped Harper, the Tide recovered at the Clemson 31 and converted the fumble into three points.
And Spurrier reacts. Who cares, right? Except the picture with Ric Flair makes me like him even more. http://www.thewizofodds.com/the_wiz_of_odds/2008/09/spurrier-cant-r.html
^^^From the Call in show
On the sub thing, we brought an extra lineman in and the ref thought we were at the line. Richt said he hoped TV didn’t catch him arguing because he may have let out a “discouraging” word.
---Finally, as Kaltefleiter writes, Jeff Owens is a huge loss. But it sure is good to know that we have a guy like this playing on our team and a guy like this coaching our team.
"I went in there and saw him at halftime and said, 'I don't know for sure, Jeff, but the best part of this, if you can't play the rest of the year, we get to hang around each other for another year,' " Richt said. "He smiled and said, 'Things happen for a reason. I haven't been through a lot of adversity in my life and this will test me and make me a better man.' ".
