Championship Aspirations II
Here we are, facing the real meat of the schedule. Suffice to say, we lose at LSU, this will die a two part series. We keep winning, we'll assess the Dawgs' chances of winning the NC.
There really isn't much to say about Vanderbilt other than A) we won and that's good and B) we looked exactly the same against Vandy as we did against Tennessee. Vandy is just better than UT. The bad news is this. We might not be very good. In which case we are going to lose 2 or maybe 3 more games. The good news is, if we are as good as our talent indicates and as good as I truly think we are, we have come nowhere CLOSE to peaking yet.
And our position in the rankings really hasn't changed. Texas won easily, Penn State turned it on late, and the one loss teams in a similar situation with us held serve. Also, the BCS rankings came out and we're 7.
Here is a rundown, mainly rehashing, of the NC picture for the Dawgs. I'm not sure it is worth it to even look at the possibilities of a 2 loss UGA getting in as last year is looking more and more like an aberration.
1 - Texas will continue a difficult schedule and it remains in my mind that whether they win or someone else wins, this is a year in which the Big 12 champ goes to the championship game.
2 - Alabama - we should continue to wish only the best for the team that whipped us in hopes we get another shot.
3 - Penn State - as I said, the Ohio State game may be the only tough game left on their schedule. I think if OSU beats PSU, all other things shaking out, the BCS will not put a one loss PSU nor a 1 loss OSU ahead of a one loss UGA. This needs to HAPPEN.
Other concerns:
Oklahoma State - should get beat by Texas meaning a bump for UGA in human polls. This is where we could start to gain steam. The computers like UGA and the OkSUs of the world losing only helps those ranked behind them in the human.
USC - while I still think the BCS will eventually do the right thing if it comes down to a 1L UGA and 1L USC, I am a little more uneasy about it that I was last week bc the voters seemed to be impressed by their drubbing of WSU.
OU - Only reason we should worry is if Texas loses 2 and OU wins the conference. Otherwise, you can't keep a 1L OU ahead of a 1L UGA.
TT - For some reason, they're early underdogs to Kansas. I don't think they'll be on the BCS radar for long.
We need to peak...and in a hurry...here's my issue....I don't know who this team is yet...more so on D than O.....we still have nobody that seems ready to step into the Marcus Howard role...but until the Florida game last year Marcus hadn't stepped into the Marcus role yet either....maybe we still have time. As far as the offense goes I can't figure out if we can't run anything different or if Bobo is just in a funk...either way our tendencies are apparently easy to pick up on...that needs to change.
Good metaphor in the AJC today with Jeff Schultz saying our offense needs some starch. Like a really nice dress shirt that is all wadded up in a suitcase.
