I know several people may not be at work today with the holiday comming up tomorrow....but I want to do another top five thing with Tech. List your Top five UGA/Tech game memories and tell why.
1.2006 in Athens - In a year when we had lost to Vandy and KY...it was Tech's best chance....they had the senior qb (oh how I wish Reggie had a few more years) and the best wideout in the game at the time...the Tony Taylor play was great...and every time I watch that I can't believe the the officials actually got that call right. But the 7 or 8 minutes are one of my fondest memories in Sanford....they are also, in my opinion, the last great call of Munsons career. MoMass after what had been a hard year owned the bugs on this drive pulling in 4 catches including the TD and 2 point conversion. The other player that I think stood out was Paul Oliver..he owned Calvin Johnson this day...in CJ's defense he did have Reggie Ball throwing to him...What I think is interesting is that if you go back and watch that final play....we were running the Willie zone that everyone seems to hate...the difference that dya??? Three guys named Moses, Johnson and Gant....the scheme works with preasure up front.
2.1997 In Atlanta - This was a misserable day....cold and rainy and we had to watch it at the worst excuse of a stadium. But I was with my boys Toom and Everhart...and any day that starts of with chili dogs and FO's from the V can't be all bad. It had been a pretty ugly game as I remember and as time started to wind down the Dawgs trailed by 3 with just 48 seconds to go. We get close to mid field and Bobo throws what looks to be a pick to end the game....before the play is whistled dead Toom is out of the stadium almost and then we see it......that beautiful, glorious flag....pass interference.....and then with 8 or so seconds left Bobo throws one of the strangest looking TD passes to Corey Allen in the back corner and we win the game 27-24.....I'll remember the company I was with as much as I'll remember the game itself.
3. 2002 In Athens - I remember this game not because it was a great come from behind victory like the first two.....I remember this one because it was one of the most dominating GA/GT games ever.....we absolutely destroyed Tech this day....we not only took the game but we took their will...and that I love. It seemed as though Boss could levetate that day...in fact...I think he did.....51 - 7.....I really enjoyed seeing the Nash family after that game....well....enjoyed is probably a little strong....but it was fun.
4.2004 In Athens - David Greene to the rescue...this was another nasty day...rained just about the entire game....Greene hurt his hand in the first half I think and had given way to the qb in waitning, DJ....and none of us got the warm fuzzies about his performance that day...they turned out to be unwaranted...we pulled the game out thanks to some heroics from Greene and Reggie Ball....who couldn't count to 4.
5. I'm hoping this Saturday takes this spot...the year that UGA can tie for the longest win streak in this rivalry.
See you guys Saturday
