The NFL’s Final Power Rankings are out, the championship game is set, and a full slate of bowls now has a complete list of matchups. Commissioner Goodell announced. “We believe this system is the best way to select our champion, and in the process, we’ve limited the number of consecutive games teams used to be required to play.”
Writers around the country, using their power ratings, have selected the Super Bowl matchup as the Saints and the Colts. Other NCS bowls feature top teams facing one another: Denver versus Cincinnati, Minnesota plays Atlanta, and the Giants will play New England, in an exciting reprise of the 2008 Super Bowl.
Denver was the odd man out this year. Although they featured a 12-4 record, the consensus was best put this way by sportswriter D.A. Williams. “Denver simply lacked the cache that the Saints and Colts have. Besides, their division is a joke. The Chargers, Raiders, and Chiefs all stink.”
Goodell explained. “The good people of Denver know, I’m sure, that we simply couldn’t have two AFC teams in the championship. And while yes, they did beat the Colts, Indianapolis, with Peyton Manning, provides a much better matchup, in our estimation. So yeah, the voters got it right. Er, excuse me, the voters AND the objective computers got it right.”
In other news, violence erupted in Minneapolis, home of the 11-5 Vikings, though it was believed to be unrelated to football.
