I believe the biggest threat to our future as a movement is a negative public face, when we don't project a welcoming and hopeful message based on an authentic faith. The future of the conservative movement in our country will be strong if we can be moved by genuine faith and love for mankind, but not by political power.
On the campaign trail I talked about being pro-life and whole-life. This is, first and foremost, recognition of the fundamental dignity of every human person. It says that every person, at every stage and in every place, is a beautiful and unique child of God. It says that every life, everywhere, has value and is worth fighting for.
The conservative movement in America will succeed to the degree that it is faith-filled. We must exude the virtues of authentic faith: joy, hope and love. Our movement must be more compassionate, loving and welcoming.
-Sen. Sam BrownbackI am encouraged by this statement if we are talking about a conservative ideology or worldview, and certainly agree with his point. If he is referring to the Republican party then hmmm...I'm not so sure. In my estimation we don't need a national church or a government that is more faith-filled but more faith-filled churches, communities, and individuals....including politicians.

Good post. Politics and government, while established by God, is not the method and means for redeeming this country or the world. Jesus established the Church as stewards of the Gospel, and that alone is the answer. Do we need good government? Absolutely! Am I conservative, and do I want leaders who share my values? Without a doubt!
Historically, however, we see time and again how the Church grows (depth and width) in times of persecution and adversity, and yet, She oftentimes becomes anemic when things are easy.
If the Lord tarries, I believe Africa and Asia will be sending far more missionaries westward than we will be sending to them.
This past week one of our missionaries stated that the 3 countries with the most lost folks are China, India, and the USA. I don't have the stats, but we are a very divided country, perhaps suffering from more devotion to the flag, capitalism, and conservatism than we are to the Cross of Jesus Christ.
AMEN brother Barnes! I couldn't agree with you more.
I just started reading a fantastic book called "The Gospel in a Pluralistic Society" by Lesslie Newbigin. I would highly recommended it if you are interested in a further fleshing out of those ideas.
