Thanks For The Memories

The Juice and I were talking yesterday about the game last Saturday and the experience. He was talking about reading people say it was there best experience in Sanford Stadium. I have to say, the build up to the team running on to the field in black and the short time it took my eyes to tell my brain what I was seeing was awesome and the crowd showing up like it did in black and going crazy for the team was great ....But I would place it 2nd on the list of emotions at Sanford for me......the 1st spot is reserved for the senior day that David Jacobs ran out of the tunnel and we proceeded to kick the absolute piss out of Tech.

Juice and I started to think back to some of the other experiences we've had in Athens. I still miss the days when all of us would sneak into the student section and all sit together.....the last game we all sat together was 4 years ago at another beat down of the Tigers/Plainsmen/War Eagles....and it was the best of times. Toom, Everhart and I went to the Tech game when Cory Allen caught a last second TD from Bobo in Atlanta. The Boise State game two years ago and the OSU game this year felt very similar to me......both came in with touted offenses and left Athens in a downward spiral for the rest of the year. The Tech game last year ,even though we weren't all together, was a top ranking game for me as well. There are many and I thought it might be cool to hear from everybody on which games stick out the most to you...home or away.

I would put that one right there at the top. We were in the box and the crowd noise wasn't quite as loud up there ... but in the 3rd quarter, I walked around the track to get a better feel and it was vibratious. The CBS broadcast was just about the loudest crowd noise I've ever heard, I'll assume they kept the levels balanced like they normally do.

Other memorable Sanford experiences that stick out in my mind, in no particular order:

- LSU in 1990 - my first game in Athens and I was pretty stunned.
- UT in 2000; storming the field and bum rushing Damien Gary - great bc we stopped the streak
- Tech in 02 - 51-7 and it could have been 100-0
- Auburn in 03 - a beatdown. I can still see Odell running down the field daring somebody to get in his way.
- Tech last year. First really big game with my boy and it was a nail biter
- LSU in 04? A beating, courtesy of Reggie Brown and Fred Gibson with another beating to follow in the SEC game

AWAY

Easy #1 is Knoxville in 2001: the year of the hobnailed boot
A distant but solid #2 is Auburn in 96. Cory Allen followed by Edwards, Edwards, and more Edwards.
- Bama in 02 - Man enough?
- Bama in 07 was some sweet action
- Auburn in 02. Although I couldn't watch the Michael Johnson play, it was a great one.
- Jax in 04; 07, though I missed most of the actual game, I knew we were winning!!!
- LSU in 98. "I really threw thome fantathic patheth" Everhart got fresh as a daisy.
- Tech in 98? Same game to which Stidham refers
- Arky in 02 at the Dome
- Peach Bowl against UVA
