Quote of the Day

The goal of the indwelling Holy Spirit is not just to unite us with God, but to do it in such a way that we will be one with the Father in exactly the same way Jesus was. And what kind of oneness did Jesus Christ have with the Father? He had such a oneness with the Father that He was obedient when His Father sent Him down here to be poured out for us. And He says to us, "As the Father has sent Me, I also send you" (John 20:21)

I am sure I am reading a bit into this.....but I have a problem with part of that quote. The issue of becoming one with the Father just like Jesus was.....not only is that impossible as we cannot be God as Jesus IS God.....but I feel that should not even be our goal. Should we really try to BE God? Don't know that sounds really good. AC

I think the 'oneness' is being of same purpose and to get there, you have to align yourself with that level of holiness, etc.

I agree that in the sense of the trinity, that should not even be our goal. The word 'exactly' is probably not the best choice there.

I agree that "exactly" is probably not the best word choice in that context.

I think the jest of the quote is two fold. Jesus said "apart from the father I can do nothing" so he was totaly submitted to the will of the father. Also, he was poured out for us because that was the father's will se we should also be poured out for others because that is the father's will. We can only accomplish this through the power of the Holy Spirit indwelling in us and in no power of our own. A complete submission to the will of the father through the spirit.

I understood the "Jist" of the quote...but was stating that I jEst didn't like it a whole lot. That's all.
