VanGorder Gone Mad

Does anyone else find BVG's latest move odd.....I can't say that I kept up all that well with him while at GSU last year.....can't even say I knew that they sucked as bad as they did (3-8)......but this seems to me to be a little crazy.....he's had 4 jobs in 4 years.....Does anyone know what the beef was between he and CMR was about before he bolted for Jacksonville?

I heard Schlabach on 680 say that Statesboro ain't for everybody and the rumor was VG's wife wasn't big on it and basically, the quality of life was pretty miserable for them.

I don't think he's doing himself any favors by jumping around so much. Of course, the Falcons are a lot more high profile than Jax - but that's about the only thing positive about it. If they ever get their act together, I could see him getting a mid-major HC job out of this, maybe more so than out of GSU. But, it's not good in the college ranks to let everyone know you're just looking for a better opportunity.

What about Mustain leaving Arkansas???

Mustain leaving Arkansas? Where is he going. I heard, and I suppose everyone else did as well, during the bowl game how unhappy he was and stuff (odd that the coach gave him PT when he really didn't seem to deserve it) but I didn't think he'd leave.

As for VanGorder.....definately a strange move....but maybe he also found out that being a head coach wasn't his cup o' tea....so why waste time when there is a good opportunity (relatively speaking) available...maybe one that (as a coordinator) suits his personality, etc better.

So is that a done deal?? That is crazy ..I know he put that book out that was not so nice as far as Nutt goes....

Put a book out? What????

Yeah, I heard that Mustain put a book out about his senior year and the recruiting process.....if I remember right....he didn't have all nice things to say about Coach Nutt.....but I haven't seen anything from the book....

Mustain is leaving because he's a big baby!! He sucked on the field then wanted more playing time. As far as the book goes, why would you go to arkansas if your recruiting trip was so terribl?. That doesn't make any sense to me. If I didn't have a good trip. I wouldn't go there!! BVG is making a great choice. He left jacksonville to get head coaching experience at GSU, but he realized that GSU is not the same as UGA. So going to the Falcons is good move and loves working with patrino. I think there is a connection between the 2 somewhere. I agree wtih chunky. Git out of South Georgia

I don't disagree that GSU might not have been the place for him.....it's the 4 jobs in 4 years thing that gets me.....I still think if he stays in Athens for the last three years he gets more looks for HC jobs than he will now.....which brings me back to one of my original questions....why did he leave UGA in the first place??? Because now....in my eyes...his original "to gain experience" doesn't wash....what did he learn from one year as a position coach in the NFL that he couldn't learn as DC at a top SEC program?

Mustain's high school coach was hired by Arky. Then, Tulsa offers the same guy a coordinator job. Mustain is going to transfer to Tulsa to stay with the coach.

I didn't know about the book but I'd be curious to know more if anyone has anything.

Read an SI report yesterday late that said Mustain was staying at Arkansas.....and their freshman WR from the same HS was leaving. Any other news?

I looked in several places, including si.com and I saw nothing to indicate MM wasn't leaving. I'll continue to check.

Now, we have Vick and the water bottle incident to occupy the blogosphere!!!

Comments on 790 this AM ranged from "big deal, it is a conspiracy, he'll beat the rap" to "this just shows an overall lack of judgment and speaks to his judgment on field" to "MS will be starter and there'll be a qb controversy once MV comes back from suspension" to "MV is finished as an Atlanta Falcon."
